Fashola charges 304 new Estate surveyor inductees to embrace professionalism

Nigeria has no reliable data on housing deficit – Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works, Housing and Urban Development has charged the newly inducted and registered Estate Surveyors and Valuers to embrace professionalism in line with global best practices.

Fashola disclosed at the inducting ceremony of ‎304 Newly registered Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Abuja.

Represented by Olurotimi Onabanjo, the Minister said: “To the new inductees, I charge you as you receive the seal, and registration certificate as well as swear to the code of professional practice, you must grow and be abreast of new skills, techniques and global best practices. This is the way to relevant in a changing socio-economic environment”

“The stock of Public and Private Sector investments in the built environment is well over hundreds of trillion nairas. This calls for the training of the right quality and calibre of professionals to manage and ensure regular upkeep of these assets‎”he added.

‎The Minister told the inductees that, “One of the emerging areas your Professional expertise would be required is concerning the implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standards(IPSAS) which require that the net worth of public assets be captured and incorporated in the financial statements of Public Sector Entity.

“This would facilitate full disclosure and enhance the integrity and global competitiveness of our financial records to attract investors,” he noted further.

Also while reading the charge to the new inductees, Akin Olawore said, “The seal of Authority ‎confers on you the social prestige of a Registered Estate Surveyor and Valuer with Professional Acronym-RSV‎., in a basket of similarly privileged Registered Estate Surveyor and Valuers-one represents all.”

According to him, “The Wealth of nations is directly proportional to the efficiency level of harnessing and managing her landed resources. We are professionals charged with harnessing and managing landed resources, it, therefore, stands to reason that we have a great part to play in the prosperity of this nation.”

He pointed out further that the board by giving you a seal is informing the world that you can be trusted to properly direct the harnessing and management of the Nation’s resources.
