A group of environmental and corporate sustainability experts will join Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria, BJAN to deepen conversation on sustainability next week.

With just five years to the deadline of the UN Sustainable Development Goals target, the issue of sustainability has become topical among stakeholders to accelerate achievement in various fronts.

This has become more of concern especially when it is said that only 15 percent of Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs was achieved globally in 8 years as more efforts are needed to make more impact in the remaining five years – 2030 target date.

“While a few countries have made remarkable progress in some of the 17 points agenda of the SDGs, many other countries are lacking behind in many of them which will likely make the 2030 deadline for several nations unrealistic”, an expert said.

In view of the poor achievement recorded, UN which had in September 2015 established the SDGs to achieve sustainable development for all in 2030 is asking everybody to be part of the conversation.

The journalists’ forum with the theme: “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles”, aims to increase advocacy and understanding of the pressing sustainability issues.

The event scheduled for March 14 at Oriental Hotels, will have renowned sustainability expert, Omobolanle Victor-Laniyan, deliver the keynote address.

Discussants at the event include, Eze Ekuma, Lead, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Rite Foods; Victoria Uwadoka, Head, Corporate Communications and Sustainability Nestle Nigeria; Bankole Oloruntoba, CEO, Climate Change Nigeria (CIC) among other sustainability experts.

The panel discussions will cover key topics such as climate action, the transition to renewable energy, corporate responsibility, and the role of media in driving policy change. Journalists will also have the opportunity to engage with sustainability professionals, ask critical questions, and explore new storytelling approaches that make complex environmental issues accessible to the public.

In a statement, BJAN said the association is “excited to have the industry leaders share their expertise with us. Their insights will be invaluable in promoting sustainable lifestyles and protecting consumer rights.”
