Umana-ete Udoh, an accounting expert and former Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State has accused a team of accountants, who audited and managed the report on the affairs of the popular Uyo Sun Center Supermarket, of professional misconduct, describing their work as extremely depressing, devastating and demeaning to the integrity of the accounting profession.
Udoh, who made the allegation in a petition to the Institute of Chattered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN said the accountants, who participated in the purported audit, failed to properly write and signed their names in the said documents, a development he described as professional misconduct.
He said accountants play a strategic roles in economic and advancement of a nation, hence the need for caution and accountability.
He cautioned accountants against what he described a professional misconduct, dereliction of duty, unethical behaviour and false)misleading reporting, appealing to ICAN to intervene in the matter in the interest of the accounting profession.
He also petitioned the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, through the Speaker, Udeme Otong to urgently intervene in controversy surrounding the ‘unlawful removal and carting away of the iconic Sun Center Supermarket, a long- established identity and business symbol in Uyo.
”The signage was removed and carted away under improper, offensive and injurious circumstances, which has infringed in my lawful right and image, which I have built over the years”
He regretted that continued efforts to get those involved in the offensive acts for more than a year, has been abortive as they have refused to replace the signage the installed with the proper and Sun Center signage, despite repeated entreaties.
