Terngu Tsegba, a former Speaker Pro-Tempore of the Federal House of Representatives, on Monday picked nomination forms to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial election in 2027 on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The Benue North-West Senatorial District, also known as Zone B, comprises Gboko, Buruku, Tarka, Makurdi, Guma, Gwer East and Gwer West local government areas of Benue State.

Tsegba’s entry into the race is expected to heighten political activities ahead of the 2027 general election in the state.

The district is currently represented in the Senate by Titus Zam, who has also obtained forms to seek another term under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Also contesting for the seat is Eunice Ortom, wife of former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom, who is seeking the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Political analysts believe the entrance of Tsegba has further strengthened the competitiveness of the Zone B senatorial contest.

Tsegba previously represented the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for 12 consecutive years.

During the early stage of the coalition movement, Terngu Tsegba served as the pioneer Benue State chairman of the African Democratic Congress before stepping down to contest the party’s senatorial primaries for the Benue North-West seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former lawmaker, popularly known among associates as “High Chief,” is regarded by supporters as one of the experienced contenders in the race.

During his time in the National Assembly, Tsegba was credited with attracting several development projects to Gboko and Tarka communities apart from carrying out legislative responsibilities.

Supporters of the former Speaker Pro-Tempore expressed confidence that his experience, grassroots support and political network would boost his chances in the keenly contested Benue North-West senatorial election.
