The Member representing Udi North State Constituency, Uche Ugwu, has been elected the new speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly for the 8th Assembly.
Iloabuchi Aniagu, Nkanu West State Constituency nominated the immediate past deputy speaker of the House, Ugwu of Udi North State Constituency for the position of the Speaker.
The motion was seconded by Chukwudi Nwankwo, the member-elect for Awgu South.
Following his nomination and subsequent acceptance of the nomination, Ugwu, in the absence of any other nomination, was declared the Speaker.
The Clerk of the House, who is also the Head of Legislative Service, Emma Udaya declared Uche Ugwu as the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly.
For the position of Deputy Speaker, Jane Eneh of Awgu North Constituency nominated Ezenta Ezeani of Igboetiti West Constituency. His nomination was seconded by Okey Mba, member-elect, Nkanu East.

In the absence of further nomination, Ezenta Ezeani was declared the deputy speaker of the 8th Assembly by the Clerk.
Speaking immediately after inaugurating all other members of the house, the speaker said that they would key into the programmes of the state Governor, Peter Mbah.
According to him, the issue of which party a member comes from has ended and the house was poised to work as one united state House of Assembly for the interest of the people of Enugu State.
“The 8th Assembly, in case of any challenge, would use dialogue and discussions in solving the challenges. The leadership shall be for all irrespective of party.
“In Enugu, we never had this kind of assembly before, but we will work with maximum cooperation from the two parties to bring development to Enugu,” he said.
The Speaker further said that the other principal officers would be announced on 9th July during their next sitting.
