The Enugu State Government has commended the pace of work at the 10,000-hectare Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms located in Obunofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Government Area, describing the ongoing transformation as impressive and unprecedented.

Patric Uburu, commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, gave the commendation during an inspection tour of the facility on Wednesday.

He was accompanied by key partners in the project, including Godfrey Nzamujo, founder of the Songhai agricultural model.

The visit formed part of efforts to assess progress on the reactivation of the previously dormant farm, now being redeveloped into a fully integrated agro-industrial hub under a public-private partnership arrangement.

Inspection revealed significant progress across critical components of the project. Vast stretches of land have been cleared, access roads rehabilitated, and 54 fish ponds constructed. Rehabilitation work is also ongoing on piggeries, poultry units, water systems, residential facilities, and training centres.

Ubru praised Governor Peter Mbah for his commitment to revitalising agriculture through strategic partnerships, noting that the project reflects the administration’s vision for a modern, technology-driven agricultural sector.

He explained that the inspection followed an earlier visit by Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, , alongside Nnamdi Ozor, chief executive officer of Tribu Limited, the project’s core investor.

Describing the progress as remarkable, Ubru expressed optimism that the facility would soon be ready for commissioning.

“We expect that within the next month, we will return with the governor to commission this project. By then, further expansion, including ranching and increased youth participation, should be evident,” he said.

According to the commissioner, the Enugu Tribu Songhai Farm is being developed as a large-scale agro-industrial ecosystem focused on food production, value-chain development, enterprise incubation, and youth empowerment.

He added that the project is expected to create jobs, enhance food security, and position Enugu as a hub for modern agriculture.

Nzamujo uring the tour, described the initiative as transformative, noting that it would redefine agriculture and youth engagement in the state and across the country.
He emphasized that the project integrates agriculture, industry, and services into a single, functional system,
the initiative he said would empower young people with practical skills that will enabling them to become entrepreneurs rather than job seekers.

Sani Friday Nnaji, chief executive officer of Ugwu Anama Farm Ltd, expressed satisfaction with the scale of development at the site, commending the state government’s focus on agriculture and indicated interest in exploring collaboration opportunities with the project.

Nnaji described his interaction with Nzamujo as a privilege, noting that the Songhai model has significantly influenced agricultural development across Africa.
The Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms project is widely seen as a major step toward transforming the state’s agricultural landscape through innovation, private sector collaboration, and youth-driven enterprise.
