EndSARS protesters shut down Lagos – Ibadan expressway

Motorists and passengers on Monday groaned over gridlock on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, as a result of the protest against the disbanded police Special Anti – Robbery Squad (SARs)

The protesters carried placards with different inscriptions as they blocked the expressway causing gridlock.

Our Correspondent, who monitored the situation reports that the gridlock affected both lanes of the Expressway.

The gridlock which started from Arepo axis of the expressway in Obafemi – Owode local government, Ogun state had extended to Berger end of Lagos axis as well as Mowe – Sagamu end.

Passengers who couldn’t bear with the gridlock were, however, seen trekking.

Some of the passengers and motorists, who spoke with BusinessDay expressed their displeasure over the situation.

Blessing Ajiboye, a returning student of Kwara State Polytechnic, told BusinessDay that she had been in the gridlock for more than six hours at the time of filing this report.

Ajiboye, who explained that she left Lagos around 6:30 am for Ilorin, said was still in the gridlock at 12:30 pm.

“Ordinarily, this journey should not take me more than four and a half hours but I have spent six hours in the gridlock.

“This is terrible and something urgent must be done to urgently address the issues raised by the protesters. ”

A commuter, Jide Olayinka, said he left Iddo Park as early as 5:30 am with the hope of getting to Ilorin before 11 am but was surprised to meet the gridlock in Arepo.

Some of the passengers, who could not bear the pain of the gridlock and took to trekking also spoke with our Correspondent.

Habibat Surajudeen, said she had been in the gridlock for than six hours and could no longer bear the pain of sitting on the bus.
