End SARS protesters demand fixing of Naze-Nekede-Iheagwa road

ENDSARS protest: Donating companies may deal directly with victims

Protesters of EndSARS who trooped out in hundreds of thousands demanded the construction of the Naze – Nekede-Iheagwa road which leads to the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede Owerri, and the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), crippled movements in Owerri, the Imo capital.

They took to the streets and called on the state government to intervene on the deplorable state of roads in the state, with a focus on the Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa road.

The major roads in Owerri such as the Douglas, Wetheral, and Bank roads remain impassable.

Convener of the protest, Chima Uchehara who highlighted the importance of the road to the public regretted that economic activities in the area have suffered a serious setback.

He said that returning students to the Federal institutions who use road diversions instead of the major road had suffered armed robbery attacks and theft of their valuables.

Uchehara lamented that several governments had worked on the same road in the past with nothing to show for it and called on the state government to employ the services of experts so as to permanently fix the road.

“It is not just about SARS, it is about everything else that is not right in the system including the deplorable state of this Nekede-Ihiagwa road.

“Several governments have come and gone with each claiming to have fixed the road yet there is nothing to show for their claims because the contractors obviously use substandard materials”, he said.

“We call on Gov. Hope Uzodinma to end the armed robbery which Federal Poly Nekede students have been subjected to while taking diversions to the institution.

“We also call on him to revive the economy of the Nekede people; all these by fixing the Nekede-Ihiagwa road”, he added.
