Emerging Africa gets ISO 26000 certification

Emerging Africa Capital Limited, a provider of financial services that facilitate the investment process for African entities and individuals, has received the ISO 26000 certification for commitment to social responsibility.

The firm stated this at its ISO 26000 declaration held in Lagos, where Toyin Sanni, chief executive officer, Emerging Africa Capital Limited, said the certification was achieved in May.

“It is a milestone for the Emerging Africa Group to have achieved the ISO 26000 accomplishment and we are the first financial services institution in West Africa to achieve the ISO 26000 milestone and the first company in Nigeria to achieve the same,” she said.

ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Guidance Standard requires organisations to integrate social responsibility and sustainability core subjects in all operations and business relationships as well as their sphere of influence.

The company, therefore, recognises ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Guidance Management as a reference document on a holistic approach based on the seven core subjects in Clause 6 of the Guidance Standard – organisational governance, human rights, labour practices, the environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and development.

“The process has been extensive and rigorous, it has involved training of staff at all levels, establishment of champions in different departments, divisions and subsidiaries,” Sanni said.
