Edo rounds off first dose of COVID-19 vaccination exercise May 14

Nigeria begins second phase of COVID-19 vaccination

The Edo State government on Monday said it would conclude the administration of the first dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, May 14, 2021.

Andrew Obi, the State’s COVID-19 incident manager, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the second dose vaccination exercise would commence in June.

Obi further revealed that the state has so far vaccinated over 35, 340 persons across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas, including health workers, strategic leaders, and other frontline workers.

He urged residents to make good use of the ongoing vaccination exercise and get inoculated against the deadly coronavirus.

“Edo State is rounding off the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination exercise between today, Monday, May 10, and May 14, 2021. Any eligible member of the public who fails to get vaccinated in the first dose will not be vaccinated in the second dose exercise and would have to wait for another stock of vaccines from the federal government.

“We urge all residents, including the elderly, health workers, and other eligible persons for the first phase vaccination exercise to take the opportunity of the ongoing exercise to get themselves and their loved ones protected against the virus as the government intensifies efforts to achieve herd immunity through the vaccination exercise,” Obi said.

He reiterated the need for all residents to comply with the preventive measures to ensure that the government totally ends the pandemic in the state.

BusinessDay reports that Edo State commenced the administration of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, March 15, after receiving 81,080 units of the vaccine expected to inoculate not less than 40,000 people in the first phase.
