Edo 2024: Asue Ighodalo formally joins race

PDP’s Ighodalo tells Edo supporters to remain calm, await court’s verdict

…Pledges to be chief welfare officer to Edo people

Asue Ighodalo, an aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State, has promised to be the chief welfare officer to the people if given the mandate to govern the state.

Ighodalo made the promise at the formal declaration of his intention to contest for the number one office in Edo State in Benin City.

He said that as a chief welfare officer, he would be providing good and affordable healthcare, decent living conditions and ensuring food security in the state.

The aspirant, who was the immediate past chairman of Alaghodaro Economic Summit Limited, noted that when elected governor, his administration’s objective would be to lead a government that would eliminate deprivation in all its forms as well as make the state the best place to live and work in Nigeria.

The PDP governorship candidate hopeful, apart from promising to invest in constructing and maintaining quality roads, also promised to invest in rail networks across the three senatorial districts.

He explained that the rail networks would allow for the quick evacuation of agricultural produce, economic goods and finished products across and beyond the state.

“In the past, I have advised our leaders on how to solve some challenges confronting the country and in Edo State. But, today, I am here to ask you for the opportunity to act beyond advising to deliver real solutions that can unleash the promise of a new future for all of us.

“As governor, by the grace of God, my mission will be to create an Edo where quality education is accessible to all, where hard work is rewarded, and where our talented youths can turn their dreams and aspirations into reality.

“Our economic policies will uplift the poor, support the hardworking men and women of this state, and encourage entrepreneurship and innovation”, he said.

Speaking on his visions to improve access to electricity, the frontline PDP governorship aspirant, promised to replicate the success story of Ossiomo Independent Power Project across the three senatorial districts and explore affordable ways of providing electricity in rural areas.

He further pledged to create an enabling environment for businesses and people to thrive across the state, and activate economic corridors that will connect the state’s value-added goods and services to domestic and global markets.

While opining that his dreams and manifestos to the state are achievable, he noted that he will bring his personal experience, local and international networks, and decades of negotiating, fundraising and project finance to bear.

Ighodalo, who called for support from members of the party as well as Edo citizens both at home and diaspora to nominate him as the party’s candidate, urged them to shun narratives that seek to divide but to embrace those that bind together to build bridges that will lead to prosperity.
