Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi State, has appealed to residents to overlook the shortcomings of his administration and those of elected lawmakers, urging them to renew their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the appeal on Sunday during a democracy thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki to commemorate the third anniversary of his administration. Speaking before worshippers, government officials, political leaders, and religious stakeholders, Nwifuru acknowledged that mistakes may have been made in the course of governance but pleaded for understanding and forgiveness from the people.
“Please forgive us; forgive me and the National Assembly members and the House of Assembly members. Forgive our shortcomings and vote for us again,” the governor said.
His remarks come as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum across the country, with political office holders increasingly highlighting their achievements while seeking continued public support.

Reflecting on three years in office, Nwifuru expressed gratitude to God for what he described as the successes recorded by his administration despite the challenges of governance. He noted that leadership remains a learning process that demands humility, dedication, and the cooperation of citizens.
According to him, no government can claim absolute perfection, stressing that every administration is bound to encounter challenges and make decisions that may not satisfy everyone. He, however, assured Ebonyi residents that his government remains focused on delivering improved services and accelerating development across the state.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to expanding infrastructure, strengthening public services, and implementing policies aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of the people. He said his administration would continue to pursue programmes designed to bring tangible dividends of democracy to communities across Ebonyi.

Nwifuru also called for sustained unity and support among residents, emphasizing that development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and collective responsibility.
The thanksgiving service attracted prominent political figures from within and outside the state. Among those in attendance were former governors of Ebonyi State, including the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and Martin Elechi.
Also present were members of the National Assembly, state lawmakers, senior government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders who joined the governor in celebrating the administration’s third anniversary.
The event served as both a reflection on the administration’s achievements over the past three years and a platform for the governor to seek renewed public confidence ahead of future political contests.
