Ebonyi State Government has intensified efforts to modernise the education sector, through the introduction of digital learning facilities, including CCTV cameras, computers and internet connectivity in schools.
Donatus Ilang, Commissioner for Education, (Primary and Secondary Education), disclosed this, while receiving a delegation from Huawei in collaboration with Smart Brain School at his office in Block 4, Centenary City, Abakaliki over the weekend.
The commissioner commended Governor Francis Nwifuru, for prioritising education and investing heavily in infrastructure across the State.
He stated that the Administration had embarked on the construction of 21 classroom blocks across the 13 Local Government Areas, to strengthen the learning environment and improve standards in public schools.
According to him, most of the projects are nearing completion and will further enhance access to quality education in the State.
Representatives of Huawei Technologies and Smart Brain School, said that their visit was aimed at supporting the State Government’s drive to align the education sector with global digital standards.
Israel Ojobe of Smart Brain School, and Amaka, the team lead said several technology-driven packages, would be introduced to improve teaching and learning in schools across the state.
Ojobe explained that the team toured schools in the 3-senatorial zones to assess facilities and identify areas where modern digital equipment and infrastructure could be installed.
He noted that the initiative, would help position schools in Ebonyi to compete favourably in a technology-driven world and improve digital literacy among students.
Among the schools visited were ICT University Oferekpe in Izzi Local Government Area, Girls High School Azuiyiokwu, and Kpakpaji High School Ezza South.
