Early resumption at Plateau secretariat signals workers’ readiness — NLC chair

Workers in Plateau State returned to duty early after the end-of-year festivities, with noticeable activity at the State Secretariat as early as 7am when BusinessDay visited the premises on Monday.

Clusters of civil servants were seen discussing and exchanging greetings, suggesting a gradual but steady resumption of work across ministries and departments.

Speaking on the level of resumption, Eugene Manji, the Plateau State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), expressed satisfaction with workers’ turnout, noting that the workforce had responded positively to the resumption call after the holidays. He said the attitude of workers reflected a commitment to duty and service delivery in the new year.

“We have largely put down 2025 and resumed fully for the work of 2026, by the grace of God. From what we are seeing, workers are back, offices are opening, and the spirit of resumption is encouraging,” Manji said.

He attributed the early presence of workers at the secretariat to growing awareness of the need to begin the year on a serious note, adding that labour would continue to encourage discipline and punctuality among its members.

“By the grace of God, As time goes on, you will see even better compliance across board”.

When asked directly if he was satisfied with the level of resumption, Manji responded affirmatively, thanking workers for heeding the call to duty. “Yes, I am satisfied. I thank the workers and appreciate their sense of responsibility.”
