Disu reaffirms commitment to transparency, accountability in Police reforms

Olatunji Disu, Inspector-General of Police, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional reform within the Nigeria Police Force.

He declared that openness and integrity must remain the foundation of modern policing in the country.

Disu made the declaration on Thursday during an emergency conference with commissioners of police and members of the media held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre in Abuja.

The IGP said his leadership was determined to reposition the Nigeria Police Force into a more professional, accountable, and people-orientated institution capable of earning the confidence of Nigerians.

According to him, transparency remains a critical pillar of the ongoing reforms being implemented under his watch, stressing that public trust can only be achieved through openness and ethical conduct by officers at all levels.

“Transparency is the foundation of the new Nigeria Police Force I am committed to building. I have nothing to hide, and neither should any officer under my command,” the police chief stated.

Disu emphasised that the Force would continue to take decisive actions against misconduct, abuse of office, and violations of professional standards.

He noted that accountability mechanisms within the institution would be strengthened to ensure discipline and professionalism among personnel.

The IGP also stated that the ongoing reform agenda of the Force is focused on enhancing operational discipline, improving respect for human rights, and boosting service delivery across commands and formations nationwide.

He maintained that the reforms were designed not only to improve internal policing structures but also to restore public confidence in law enforcement through responsible and citizen-focused policing.

Senior officers at the meeting were also reminded of the need to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, especially amid increasing public scrutiny of security agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force assured Nigerians that efforts to rebuild trust and modernise policing operations across the country would remain a top priority.
