Delta govt opens camp for displaced Okuama residents

As part of efforts to resettle the displaced people of trouble-stricken Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, the Delta State Government through Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Management Committe, has announced that the camp is preparing to receive the IDPs.

Abraham Ogbodo, the Chairman of the Committee, who led a crew of journalists and community leaders on a tour of the facility situated at Ewu Grammar School in Ewu main town, expressed his satisfaction with the readiness of the camp to accommodate the displaced Okuama residents and encouraged them to begin reporting to the camp.

During the tour, Ogbodo reassured Okuama indigenes of their safety and well-being once they arrived at the camp, adding that although the camp was unofficially open at present, it was however fully equipped to receive the displaced people until the official inauguration by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Addressing concerns about the camp location, Ogbodo appealed to the Okuama residents not to dwell on emotions or sentimentality, emphasizing that the State Government’s decision to provide a temporary shelter was made in the best interest of the displaced individuals.

“The camp is ready to receive the displaced people of Okuama. This is a crucial first step towards finding a long-term solution to their plight,” Ogbodo stated, urging the displaced residents to trust in the government’s commitment to assisting them during this challenging time”, he said..
