La Liga side Real Betis were dealt a fresh blow in December following the injury of their star player Nabil Fekir.

The 30-year-old midfielder had a very tough 2023. He suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury back in February that ruled him out of football for eight months.

He returned earlier in November, coming on as a substitute against Mallorca. He made further appearances from the bench against Aris Limassol and Las Palmas and Sparta Prague on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League match.

Unfortunately, he could only play for the 45 minutes of the game, during which Betis went on to win 1-0.

Estadio Deportivo, a Spanish media outlet, claims that Fekir was substituted after suffering a hip injury following a strike on his knee from a Sparta Prague player.

Real Betis would hope the injury is not major and Fekir returns before the summer break in December.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis side are seventh on the La Liga table and will travel to the Power Horse Stadium in a cracker against Almeria on Sunday.

On Saturday afternoon, Athletic Club will look to build on last matchday’s positive result when they take on Rayo Vallecano at home. The fans in Bilbao will remember how much fun this duel was last year when the Basques edged a thriller against the team from Vallecas 3-2 at San Mamés.

At 18:30 CET on Saturday, new Granada CF coach Alexander Medina makes his debut in charge of the Andalusian outfit and he does so at the Bernabéu, kicking off his tenure with an away game at Real Madrid. That is certainly a tough way to start, but the La Liga champions will travel to the capital city full of determination.
