Cross River increases health officers’ mobility to strengthen TB control

In a decisive move to strengthen tuberculosis (TB) control and expand healthcare access, the Cross River State Government through the Ministry of Health, has reinforced its commitment to an integrated care model, ensuring that TB and HIV patients receive comprehensive treatment from a single care team at one location during a single visit.

This directive was issued by Henry Ayuk, Commissioner for Health, during the official distribution of 36 motorcycles to TB Supervisors and Assistants across the State’s 18 Local Government Councils.

Ayuk emphasised that eliminating TB remains a top priority, requiring coordinated action from all stakeholders. He commended the Global Fund and the Federal Ministry of Health for their critical support in donating the motorcycles, describing them as a game-changer for TB surveillance, diagnosis, and treatment in Cross River State.

Delivering her remarks, Ajom Ikongha, the State Program Manager for TB and Leprosy Control (TBL), stressed the vital role of mobility in disease control efforts, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
