COUNTDOWN BEGINS TO THE GAGE AWARDS 2021

In a few days, the Nigerian Internet space will get in a frenzy with the 2nd edition of the GAGE Awards. Activities kicking off this edition will start with the call for nominations starting on December 1st, 2020, enabling Nigerians to nominate their favourite individuals and brands that brought value to their life using the tech space in 2020.

Facilitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 is the year digital became the mainstay of our lives. Even as the world experienced lockdown for months, digitally made sure we survived and changed the way things are done. Now, it’s the time to celebrate and reward the innovators and creators who ensured we came out unscathed.

In a year that we suddenly warmed up to the possibilities of working and schooling from home, video conferencing, e-concerts and many more, brands underwent very interesting digital transformations. Many had to adapt really fast or face the reality of going under. It was a year that saw brands like Zoom, Mixlr rise from obscurity to become very valuable brands. Data companies became life-givers as it became even more apparent that data is life. We also witnessed a sudden rise in a video-on-demand platform such as Netflix. Not to take away from the very many interesting local solutions that sprang up this year that deserves celebration as our contribution to the global tech space

This year more than ever before, digital changed the way we bank and do business forced by the pandemic and our tech innovators constant search for an easier way to live. More and more people have plugged into convenient banking, from their mobile phones wherever they are.

According to the convener of the GAGE Awards, Mr Johnson Anorh, “we are excited already about the GAGE Awards ’21, it will be interesting to see the very best innovators and tech brands in 2020.A year when we were forced to adapt to the foundation of a fast-changing world laid over 30 years ago. The most innovative brands and individuals in Nigeria will be spotlighted at the GAGE Awards ’21.’’
The GAGE Awards will celebrate different categories when we open the call for nominations. 20 categories in 5 areas which affect lives daily will be our core focus; Innovation, Information, Inspiration, Entertainment and Business.

Some of the categories open for nomination are Banking App of the Year, Breakout App of the Year, Best Digital Financial Platform, Online Comedian of the Year, Tech Entrepreneur of the Year, Digital Artiste of the Year, Website of the Year, Influencer of the Year, Social Movement of the Year, Influencer of the Year etc. The GAGE Awards ‘21 comes with the introduction of a new category – GAGE STAR OF THE YEAR. This category celebrates individuals, institutions or group who took the Internet by storm for the year under review.

The maiden edition of the GAGE Awards took place in February this year at the EKO CONVENTION CENTRE. It attracted support and partnership from corporate organizations and Government bodies such as the Nigerian Communications Commission, Lagos State Government and a host of other organizations.

Big winners on the night were GTBank, Airtel, E-Tranzact, Jumia Food, Kiki Mordi, Onyeka Akumah, Taaooma etc.
The GAGE Awards is an initiative of TOMATO DIGITALS; it is aimed at fast-tracking the pace of technological growth in Nigeria. By introducing the much-needed standard, GAGE Awards is facilitating growth, innovation and attracting new talents to the digital space.

The GAGE Awards celebrates the best of the Internet in Africa with a spotlight on Individuals, Influencers, Brands and Entertainers for their outstanding activities and contribution to the digital ecosystem annually. The 2021 edition is scheduled to take place in April 2021.
