CMA CGM reaffirms commitment to investing in Nigeria’s education sector

CMA CGM, a world leader in shipping and logistics, has restated its commitment to investing in Nigeria’s education sector, as it recently donated 10 computers to United Christian Junior Secondary School, a government school in Lagos State, and refurbished the school’s computer room.

The group which is present in 16o countries across 755 offices, 750 warehouses and has 110,000 staff members said the donation is part of the group’s commitment towards Nigeria and Apapa.

Speaking during the donation of the computers at the United Christian Secondary School, Apapa Lagos, Lionel Odeyer, managing director CMA CGM Nigeria, said in the current economic context, CMA CGM understands the situation is very difficult for schools which are often facing a shortage of equipment necessary to teach their pupils.

“Dear prefects, computers are needed in schools since they will grant you access to a wealth of information at your fingertip that can help you develop your research and communication skills while preparing you for a future career in a workforce that is increasingly reliant on computer technology.

“We hope that you will make the best use of these and that you will grow your skills. We, at CMA-CGM Nigeria, are convinced that the ports of Nigeria be it in Apapa, Port Harcourt or Lekki will offer many job opportunities in the future for young talented people like you,” Odeyer told the students.

He noted that he was pleased to provide to the principal a donation of 10 computers and the refurbishing of the computer room on behalf of Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of the CMA CGM Group.

He said building on its family values, the CMA CGM Group has always considered that its economic performance was inseparable from its environmental and social performance, adding that equal access to education is especially important to CMA CGM.

Odeyer added that CMA CGM Group has been operating in Nigeria since 2005 and offers five services with weekly calls in Lagos and Onne.

He hinted that as an economic operator, CMA CGM strongly participates in the economic development of the country with competitive end-to-end solutions and by supporting exporters in reaching new markets.
