Cleric, AGSOBA President-General Call for Unity, Discipline

…as 118th Founder’s Day Celebration Ends

The Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys’ Association (AGSOBA) on Sunday concluded its week-long activities marking the 118th Founder’s Day Anniversary with a thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The service brought together old students, members of the school community and other dignitaries to celebrate the institution’s rich heritage and offer gratitude to God for its enduring legacy.

Delivering the sermon, the Archbishop of Egba Province of the African Church, the Most Rev. David Akinremi, urged members of AGSOBA to continue living lives that glorify God through service, unity and positive impact on society.

Speaking from Psalm 22:23, the cleric said thanksgiving should go beyond words, stressing that serving humanity and bearing good fruits are practical ways of praising God.

“When you become a blessing to others, you are praising God. Another way of praising God is by bearing fruit because when we do so, God is glorified,” he said.

Archbishop Akinremi also called on members of the association to uphold unity and continue supporting the growth and development of their alma mater.

Expressing concern over the declining culture of discipline among young people, he lamented that some parents now confront and even attack teachers for disciplining their children, a trend he described as detrimental to education and moral development.

He urged parents and old students to pray consistently for the younger generation, mentor them through positive guidance and counselling, and closely monitor their activities to help them become responsible members of society.

The cleric congratulated AGSOBA on its 118th Founder’s Day Anniversary, commending the association for sustaining the ideals and values of Abeokuta Grammar School over the years.

In his remarks, the President-General of AGSOBA, Chief Dr. Obafemi Kotoye, expressed appreciation to members of the association across the world for their support and participation in the anniversary celebrations.

He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, discipline and moral values among students of Abeokuta Grammar School.

Chief Kotoye declared that the school maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards hooliganism, cultism and internet-related fraud, warning that students involved in criminal activities, including internet fraud popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo,” have no place in the institution.

He urged the students to remain focused on their education, uphold the school’s core values and strive to become worthy ambassadors of Abeokuta Grammar School.

The thanksgiving service marked the grand finale of the week-long activities commemorating the 118th Founder’s Day Anniversary of the historic institution.
