CGMI moves to tackle unemployment, holds business summit

Nigeria’s unemployment

The high rate of insecurity and religious intolerance in the country has been attributed to increased proportion of unemployment among the youth.

Speaking at a press conference heralding a one- day summit with the theme, ‘Emerging business opportunities in real estate at the Lekki axis’, organised by the Church of God Mission Garden City, Oniru Lekki, Chris Ubamadu, senior pastor of the church, observed that if youths were engaged in meaningful businesses, the level of crime would be reduced if not eradicated.

“The guys that took up terrorism would not have done so, if they were gainfully employed. We hear from the bandits from time to time and they have told the nation that they engage in crime because they are looking for means of livelihood,” Ubamadu said.

Highlighting the summit which is scheduled to hold on May 1, 2012 at the church premises, Ubamadu who is also the convener of the event, said the programme, which is being organised under the platform of ‘The Round Table Lekki’, is aimed to expose participants to real estate business which in turn would enable them take care of their financial needs.

“Today, terrorism is part of our national life and many of our young people who have solution to some of these challenges have left the country. Today, Nigeria is regarded as the poverty capital of the world in terms of food shortage; the number of out-of-school children is on the increase. Yes, we have some of these problems in the past, but it seems as if it is getting worst by the day; so, we at the Church of God Mission want to contribute in our own little way by organising this summit which will take place physical and partly online,’’ he said.

Tseyi Ejueyitsi, team lead and coordinator of the Round Table Lekki platform, described the programme as an economic empowerment; networking and business development platform that would enable members focus on the ability to network and bring people from various sectors to x-ray and expose participants to the opportunities found in the sector.
