Following the huge economic potential in the waste recycling business, Century Group, an indigenous oil company, has restated its commitment towards empowering more Nigerians on “waste to wealth” creation.

“Our vision is to create opportunities that go beyond rhetoric, by genuinely giving our people the tools for a new awakening and to consciously take the right action under every circumstance in which health, safety and environment (HSE) are top considerations.

“We believe in individual ownership of HSE, our management strongly believes that the individual once enabled and empowered by the company, solves problems related to HSE not only to his benefit but also to the society at large,” said Ken Etete, MD/CEO, Century Group, at HSE Summit 2020 recycling trainees’ graduation ceremony, which held in Lagos recently.

According to Etete, the Century Group global performance index (GPI) HSE Summit is committed to actively raising awareness to spur a shift in HSE culture and practice across industry.

He states that the focus of the summit is to beam the light on revenue generating potential of HSE for all stakeholders to harness the best value available in waste recycling.

In 2019, Century Group in collaboration with industry stakeholders initiated and executed the first edition of the Summit with the theme: HSE in our DNA: The Billionaire Lifestyle and followed it up in 2020 with “HSE in our DNA: Recycling to Wealth” in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, IOSH and GPI.

Taiwo, who was a trainer at the summit, said the graduands were trained to transform plastic, and all forms of waste to commercial materials that can in turn create wealth.

The 10 trainees at the entreprenueral waste recycling opportunities summit are Adeleke Adedamola; Adesegun Teluwo; Fred Olasumbo Felicia; Konyegwachi Chukwuma; Idamie Vincent; Ebute Christiana; Ogundipe Olukunmi; Victor Chiemeke; Julius Akpong and Uchechukwu Anuniru.
