The Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State, Patrick Archibong recently promised Ward 10 citizens/residents a market and other social amenities.

He gave the assurance during a Town Hall meeting he held with residents and leaders of the ward 10.

In an opening remark during the occasion, a clergy man and one of the facilitators/initiators of the ward 10 forum, Nathaniel Offiong thanked God for making the event possible. He welcomed the audience to the occasion and praised other partners of the project for a job well done.

“The Ward 10 Forum” was born out of necessity following some ugly incidents and events that were occurring in the ward, that dented the image of the ward,” he said.

He advised the people to have good dreams, adding that the vision was shown to him in a dream and that God and the elders were using the forum to gather the youths and mobilize them for “Ward 10 for Christ and Calabar South for Christ.”

The clergy man further thanked the elders for turning up en-masse to grace the occasion and prayed for God’s guidance.

Also speaking during the occasion, the chapter chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otu Marshall, showered praises on ward 10 councilor, Peter Nya for mobilising the people for progressive actions and good works and for being a good ambassador of the ward as well as the Seventh Assembly Leader of the Calabar South legislature.

Otu also raised the issue of insecurity, water scarcity and power, noting that the borehole cited there couldn’t function because there was no electricity to power it.

He called on the government to employ security guards for the school premises and light up the environment.

Earlier, the Chairman of polling units of the ward, Bassey Nta Bassey had expressed the need for the residents of the ward to be empowered to encourage them to live up to their responsibilities as good citizens who have been exercising their voting rights.

In his speech, the APC ward 10 chairman, Valentine Effiom had called on the government to provide more street lights in the ward, empower parents and women in the ward so that they can send their children to school, and to support sporting activities like football, table tennis, support trade and skill acquisition and award scholarships to less-privileged and indigent students in the ward.

The plight of Burdillon and Anating residents were also highlighted as he informed the chairman that the street (Anating) is the only street in the ward that has not been paved nor tarred and that the later needs rehabilitation.

He also made case for the ward to have a market for revenue generation.

Secretary of the ward, Asuquo Bassey called on the government to fix without delay, a portion of Ebito lane that has disintegrated and wrecked by severe flood.

In his response, the Chairman of Calabar South LGA thanked all ward 10 indigenes and elders for turning out and for initiating the ward 10 forum. He acknowledged that he has noted all the issues raised and requests presented by the ward. He advised the ward elders to form co-operative societies so as to attract government attention and empowerment.

On security he called on his host to establish vigilante groups for crime fighting and prevention and promised to approve a market site for the ward whenever a suitable site is provided and brought to his notice.
