BusinessDay’s Rasaq Ayinla, 19 others become MTN-MIP fellows

Razaq Adesanya Ayinla, BusinessDay Media bureau chief in charge of the southwest region and a journalist with over 15 years of experience, has alongside 19 others been admitted into the Media Innovation Programme by MTN (MTN-MIP).

Ayinla has valuable experience in both broadcast and print journalism. He began his career as a graduate intern at Cub Reporter and graduated as a staff reporter, proofreader, assistant editor, regional editor, and news editor.

The veteran journalist currently prepares, collates, and edits news stories and features from southwest and Kwara States. He edits and produces news across western Nigeria for BusinessDay and makes daily editorial contributions to the paper’s general and specialised pages.

The MTN-MIP kicked off on Monday, May 23, and will run until Friday, October 28, 2022. The MTN-MIP fellows cut across print, broadcast, online and social media.

The 20 media professionals across the country were selected for the maiden MIP by MTN Nigeria in partnership with the School of Media and Communications (SMC) of Pan-Atlantic University.

The six-month fully funded fellowship is for innovative storytellers and media leaders that will equip them with new skills needed to function in the rapidly changing media world.

The other fellows are Abidemi Diaro, a senior producer/reporter with Channels Television, Adeyemi Adepetun, the assistant editor, communications and technology desk at the Guardian Newspaper, Agbonkhese Oboh, the deputy online editor – currently acting as online editor – of Vanguard Newspapers, Ameh Ejekwonyilo, a Senior reporter on the judiciary, human rights and anti-corruption desk of Premium Times Newspaper, Chima Akwaja, the technology editor of Leadership, Damilola Fajinmi, a media, and communications professional with a demonstrated history of over 8 years working in the media production industry, Daniel Adeyemi, a senior reporter at TechCabal, Elsie Godwin, a co-anchor & co-producer on WAYS Show Africa showing weekdays on DSTV CH 408/Startimes Ch 308/GOTV Ch 112 and the producer and anchor of Reviews on the Couch, and Esther Ndu, a news producer currently working at Arise News.

Others include Mike Okwoche, a senior anchor and head of newscasters at Television Continental (TVC) in Lagos, Nahimah Ajikanle Nurudeen, the Founder and Lead Strategist at TenticP Communications Nigeria Limited, Peter Oluka Ikenna, a practising ICT journalist; technopreneur, and speechwriter, amongst other Media & Public Relations interests, Sakina Ahmed, a staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria as an assistant translator, Samson Akintaro, a tech analyst with Nairametrics, Temitayo Jaiyeola, a technology correspondent at the PUNCH newspaper, Ugo Unwuaso, a tech and ICT enthusiast with Nigeria CommunicationsWeek as a Senior Correspondent covering ICT, Business and Logistics, Uhuotu Omilabu, a young, aspiring and resourceful broadcast journalist with a strong passion, Vanessa Obioha, a writer and a journalist joined THISDAY Newspapers, and Wasilat Azeez, a finance journalist, data enthusiast, and fact-checker.
