Temitayo Ayetoto, BusinessDay’s Investigative journalist and health reporter alongside six other outstanding journalists across Nigeria have won the journalism fellowship on Trans Fat Free Nigeria campaign, organised by the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA).
The fellowship supported by Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) is part of CAPPA’s efforts to build the capacity of the Nigerian media towards raising awareness on the dangers of trans-fat, offering new perspectives to elimination from the local food supply.
A team of senior and experienced journalists critiqued the entries to select the seven best from Andrew Mshelia from Nagarta Radio; Abenmire Adi of HitFM/Cross River Watch; Agbonkhese Oboh of Vanguard; Chukuwumah Muanya of The Guardian; Frank Ajufo of Vision FM and Amos Abba ICIR are winning applicants.
The fellowship hopes to build and improve the public awareness on trans fat and practices relating to use in line with the World Health Organisation’s recommended standards, Adie Vanessa Offiong, Program Manager, Trans Free Fat Nigeria Campaign wrote in a statement.
The fellowship will begin in January 2021 for two months, with the journalists reporting on a variety of subjects including trans fat content in food, trans fat and wellbeing, industry players and food labelling and distinguishing trans fat enhancing cardiovascular diseases and implications of the treatment of such in Nigeria.
