Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has called on security operatives to redouble their efforts in maintaining peace following recent attacks in the state.
The governor made the call during a routine State Security Council Meeting held at the Government House, Damaturu, on Wednesday, with heads of security agencies and some local government chairmen in attendance.
Governor Buni was represented at the security meeting by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, which was convened to review and analyse the security situation across the State, with a view to strengthening strategies to protect lives and property.
Idi explained that the meeting reviewed intelligence reports relating to cases of homicide, rising drug abuse in some local government areas, as well as clashes between farmers and herders.
He commended the various security agencies for their commitment and sacrifices in ensuring peace, law and order in Yobe State, describing their efforts as patriotic and commendable.
Gubana noted that, as part of measures to ensure hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the State Government had directed all security agencies to intensify surveillance, patrols and other proactive security operations across the state during the festive period.
He also condoled with the Commissioner of Police and the entire police formation over the tragic death of some Police officers following an attack by Boko Haram insurgents at the military training centre in Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area.
Shortly after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, briefed journalists on the outcome.
He assured residents that security agencies would intensify surveillance and patrol operations to curb homicide, drug abuse, farmers/herders clashes and other forms of criminal activities across the state.
The Commissioner appealed to the people of Yobe State to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to sustain the relative peace being enjoyed in the State.
