Buhari’s aide joins effort to release detained #ENDSARS protesters

Johannes Tobi, a member of the President Muhammadu Buhari media team has joined efforts to rescue ENDSARS protesters from police detention in Abuja.

Many of the protesters who were shot at with tear gas and chased by officers of the Nigerian Police Force, were later arrested and detained at a station in Maitama.

“All protesters that were taken to the Maitama Police Station were released immediately,” the aide tweeted on Friday. “The DPO has confirmed this. The freedom of assembly, and to protest against any forms of #PoliceBrutality is not a crime.”

While there is no official word from the Presidency on the way forward on the SARS protest, there are speculations that the President may have discussed the situation with his National Security Adviser earlier on Friday.

Tobi also tweeted that he is going around the Federal Capital Territory with the Commissioner representing the media at the Police Service Commission to ensure no protesters are detained.

“If you know of any arrests of any protester please call this number; 08032626994,” he tweeted.
