Buhari seeks Senate’s confirmation of ambassadors, PENCOM, two other boards

President Muhammadu Buhari has sought confirmation of appointment of two non-career ambassadors designate. They are Muhammad Manta (Niger) and Yesufu Yunusa (Yobe).

The nominees, according to a letter by the president, would replace Air Commodore Peter Gana (retd.) and Alhaji Yusuf Muhammad, who were earlier nominated to the Senate for confirmation.

The request was made in accordance to section 171(1),(2)c) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

In another letter of September 10, the president sought the confirmation of appointments of eight nominees into the board of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

The letter was written in accordance with the provision of Section 5(1)(2) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act 2018.

They are Emeka Nwakpa, South East, (Chairman), Babatunde Irukera, North Central (Executive Vice Chairman), Mrs Yinka Apata, South West, (Executive Commissioner), Dr Ben Nwoye, South East (Non-Executive Commissioner).

Others are Adamu Abdullahi, North East (Executive Commissioner), AVM Wakili Ahmed, North West (Non-Executive Commissioner), Ayang Eyam, South South (Non-Executive Commissioner), ) and Theophilus Oyebiyi, North Central (Non-Executive Commissioner).

Also in a September 14 letter, the President requested the confirmation of appointment of the Chairman and Commissioners of the National Population Commission.

The letter reads: “In accordance with the provision of Section 154 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), I write to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the underlisted names of twelve (12) nominees as Chairman and Commissioners of the National Population Commission.

The nominees are Nasir Kwarra (Nasarawa), Chairman; Ali Silas Agara (Nasarawa); Mohammed. Dottoji (Sokoto); Gidado Razak (Kwara); Ibrahim Mohammed (Bauchi); Joseph Kwali (FCT); Ajayi Sunday (Ekiti); Garba A. G. Zakar (Jigawa); Mai Aliyu Muhammad (Yobe); Muhammad Muttaka (Zamfara) Bala Banya (Katsina); and Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin (Lagos).

The president also sought confirmation of six nominees for appointment as Chairman, Director General and Executive Commissioners of National Pension Commission.

They are Dr. Oyindasola Oni, North Central, (chairman), Aisha Umar, North East, (Director-General); Hannatu Musa, North West (Commissioner); Clement Akintola, South West, (Commissioner); Ayim C. Nyerere, South East (Commissioner) and Charles Emukowhale, South South, (Commissioner).
