Buhari in emergency meeting with security chiefs

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has entered an emergency national security meeting with top security officials at the State House, Abuja.

Although details of the meeting, which started at 10 am at the Conference Hall of the Office of the First Lady, remain top-secret, Villa sources told BusinessDay that it is expected to review the current security situation in the country in the wake of recent attacks on communities, kidnappings, and attacks on government establishments in the South East and other parts of the country.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha are in attendance at the meeting.

Chief of Staff to the President Ibrahim Gambari; Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs, Bashir Magashi and Geoffery Onyema, respectively, as well as National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno are also part of the enlarged security meeting.

The Service Chiefs – Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff Farouk Yahaya, Chief of Naval Staff Awwal Zubairu, and Chief of Air Staff Isiaka Amoo, as well as Inspector General of Police Usman Baba, had earlier arrived the State House for the meeting.

Also attending the emergency meeting are National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director-General Ahmed Rufa’i, DSS Director-General Yusuf Bichi, and other presidential aides.
