Buhari asks Senate to confirm Nababa as Correctional Services boss

Nigeria’s Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari requesting the lawmakers to confirm Haliru Nababa as the controller-general of the Nigeria Correctional Service.

According to the letter read on the floor of the Senate, Buhari said the appointment of Nababa as the controller-general of the Correctional Service was in compliance with Section 3(1B) of the Nigeria Correctional Service Act 2019.

He, however, expressed confidence that the Senate would give the request the urgent attention it deserves.

“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of the Controller-General, Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) in compliance with Section 3(1B) of the Nigeria Correctional Service Act 2019,” Buhari said.

“It is my hope that the Senate will consider this request in the usual expeditious manner.

“Please accept, distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration. Yours sincerely, Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

Last Tuesday, President Buhari also requested the lawmakers to confirm Abdulrasheed Bawa as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

After reading the letter on the floor of the Senate, Lawan said the screening of the chairman-designate of the anti-graft agency would be done in plenary in keeping with the Senate’s tradition.
