…As the military reclaims Ngoshe after gun battles

The Borno State Government is urging the military to improve its operations and tactics with a view to reversing the recent spikes in Boko Haram attacks. The authorities’ charge follows the loss of some field commanders and critical military assets.

This resolution was made known after extensive deliberation by the Borno State Security Council during an emergency meeting to stem the recent spikes of attacks on communities and military formations in the state.

Babagana Zulum, governor of the state represented by Usman Tar, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, said the council commiserates with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and our civilian communities over the sad loss of some military commanders, soldiers and civilians as a result of attacks in some locations, especially Ngoshe, Dalwa, Konduga and other places.

According to him, they commended the theatre command, military formations, and security agencies for their support in safeguarding lives and property in Born. The state council noted that the theatre command recently embarked on a military mission to the Timbuktu triangle, which led to the flushing out of insurgents from their safe havens.

“The recent spikes in attacks may not be unconnected with the fact that the insurgents are taking the heat at their safe havens, and they have been flushed out of those locations, and therefore, with a bloody nose, they are attacking everywhere.

“The military establishment is taking necessary steps to overcome recent spikes in attacks. The council expressed deep concern with the escalation of insurgency and criminality in fragile locations in the state, especially the fact that certain settled locations like Ngoshe and Konduga are now coming under fire.

“We called on the Nigerian military and our security agencies to improve their operations and tactics with a view to reversing the recent spikes in Boko Haram attacks. Council took note of the details of their operational plans and commended the military for developing a better plan.

He urged, “In the coming days, the situation will improve. Fundamentally, number five, council enjoined the military and security agencies to review and harmonise their operational plans with a view to improving jointness and interoperability.

He said, “The need for our military and security agencies to put their resources together, to put their plans together, so that there will be combat effectiveness in the field.

He said the council appealed to the Bono state government to work towards providing the military with critical assets and platforms lost during recent offensives.

“They expressed concern with the colossal loss of critical asset and platforms as a result of recent attacks, and called on the military to improve and to make sure that going forward, we do not lose critical assets in the field, calling on the forum of security chiefs to call An emergency meeting to come up with a solid plan to stem the tide of recent upsurge in Boko Haram attacks.”

He called on the theatre command to improve on offensive and decapitation missions to the insurgency enclaves through joint operations,

“We realise that this decapitation mission is yielding results. That is the reason why the insurgents are upset, and the theatre commander should continue in that direction.”Usman.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian military has recaptured a Borno village that was earlier taken by Boko Haram terrorists after three days of gun battles in the southern part of the state, sources said.

The operations were conducted by troops in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force CJTF, hunters, and local vigilante groups.

Business Day had reported that Ngoshe was captured on the 3rd Tuesday of March, 2026, after the troops were overpowered and dislodged by the outlawed groups.

According to a security source, the operation to reclaim the base was carried out for days after insurgents overran the facility and advanced into the nearby community.

A military source confirmed the development to our reporter on Wednesday morning, stating that troops are now in control of the base after engaging the remaining insurgents in a gun battle.

He said, “Our troops are currently in Ngoshe military base after a rain of gun battle with the Boko Haram terrorists, clearance operations are still going on to safeguard the general areas.”

However, the situation in the Ngoshe community remains uncertain as the whereabouts of hundreds of abductees are not known at the time of reclaiming the troubled village.

Although the military base is now fully under government control, it is not yet clear whether security forces have secured the surrounding community, located about 1 kilometre from the base.
