Benue Varsity Hospital records first IVF delivery, as pensioners receives free treatments

The Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi has recorded its first In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) delivery at the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Annex even as it also introduced the policy of treating Benue Pensioners free of charge.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Stephen Hwande disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the auditorium hall of the hospital.

The Medical Director said that Benue State University Teaching Hospital was the first among public hospitals in northern Nigeria to record the IVF feat, and the cheapest in the country at the rate of four hundred thousand naira (N400,000) only as against Five million naira (N5,000,000) or two million naira (N2,000,000) elsewhere.

Hwande emphasized that the subsidisation of the IVF Case was a deliberate act of the Governor Hyacinth Alia administration to ensure that the masses are at the cheapest living cost of healthcare services in the state hence, health is wealth as popularly said,

He stressed that Governor Hyacinth Alia’s government is a government of the masses as such, it has introduced a policy of treating Benue pensioners free of charge by issuing patients cards for free, giving them medical consultations for free as well as giving them bed treatments for free leaving them with only drugs bills to pay.

The Medical Director, who commended the Governor for voting the sum of eighty two million naira (N82, 000,000,000) in the 2025 annual budget for health, added that over twenty million naira (N20,000,000) is for Benue State University Teaching Hospital and it shall be well used.

He said that the previous administration left behind a bulk load of salary arrears amounting to over eight hundred-million-naira (N800,000,000), but that eighty percent (80%) of the arrears has been cleared in the twenty-one (21) months of the incumbent government through the intervention of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

He noted that Benue State University Teaching Hospital Staff are among the highest paid teaching hospital staff in Nigeria.

He disclosed that Benue State government has released the sum of one billion, six hundred million naira (N1,600,000,000,000) for installation and supply of water at Benue State University Teaching Hospital while the VIP section of the hospital is currently undergoing renovation. Also, supply of drugs is steady with Cancer activities set to commence next week.

“The hospital also handles fertility care perfectly with successful birth delivery at the rate of five thousand naira (N5,000) only in a programme known as “Help of Mother and Baby’s which is part of social corporate services for the Benue masses.”
