Benue Killings: When will the violence end?

businessday-icon

I am still yet to understand because I am confused, I don’t understand what is going on in my nation

These are the musings of a concerned Nigerian.

Many questions come to mind, some of which are:

Has the Nigerian constitution been amended for the Fulani colony in Nigeria?

Is cattle business a government business?

Does Nigerian land belong to the Fulani herdsmen?

Should owners of land vacate their land for intruders?

Should poor farmers be killed for the sake of Fulani herdsmen?

Will the food produce of Nigeria not become unreasonably low as the activities of Fulani herdsmen constantly disrupts the activities of farmers?

How many cows will a Fulani herdsman sell to purchase the sophisticated AK47 rifle?

(The price of the biggest cow is N180, 000 and the price of a rifle is 400,000 on the black market and  )

I believe that chaos and violence is strategically spreading across the nation under the disguise of Fulani herdsmen.

The recent killings of the Agatu people in Benue happened and no one was arrested, there were no investigations carried out to know where the group materialized from. Killings have begun in five different areas of Benue State. Is the state not gradually being decimated?

It looks like the state is being decimated so they can take over the land the way they took over Sambisa forest. Every community may soon put law into their hands to defend themselves.

If the citizens of Nigeria cannot trust the security agencies of this nation any longer, it seems a state of Anarchy is in view. The security operators of this nation obviously have failed to defend the lives and property of these poor farmers across the nation.

How do these killers get away with their diabolic and murderous act? They seem to have the backing of the ‘powers that be’

Nigeria has become a nation at war with each other. No external aggression, no ethnic crisis, no natural disaster but yet Nigerians are carrying out massive burials after every terror attack.

I believe that there is more to this low response from the political caucus. I pray that God will reveal the people behind the scenes. God, have mercy.

Michael Nicholas-Luthuli  is a Pan-African writer  in Lagos, he writes from the heart of one who loves Nigeria.
“Although this article was written before the Jos killings, my heart goes out to everyone who lost a loved one during an act of terror in Nigeria and anyone who has ever lost anyone during a terror attack anywhere in the world”- Luthuli
