Benue govt to revitalise, revamp 98 primary healthcare centres

The Benue State Government, in partnership with the IMPACT project, is set to revitalise and revamp a total of 98 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) situated across the State’s 23 Local Government Areas.

Sam Ode, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, announced this initiative during a groundbreaking ceremony at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Akpegede, Otukpo Local Government Area.

The Deputy Governor noted that under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, significant advancements had been made in the healthcare sector, particularly with the modernisation of the State teaching hospital, which had enhanced access to quality medical services for the Community.

Ode characterised the revitalisation of the 98 PHCs—an effort backed by the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) project—as a pivotal moment for the State’s healthcare system.
He urged the people of Akpegede to cooperate with the contractor responsible for the revitalisation, ensuring the timely completion of the project.

Yanmar Ortese, Health and Human Services Commissioner, praised the Governor for his support for healthcare programmes in the State. Ortese highlighted the significance of providing adequate facilities at the primary healthcare centres, stating that they would include solar lighting, accommodation for doctors, and a motorised borehole for around-the-clock services.

“We aim for a situation where patients can see a doctor whenever they visit the centre,” he remarked.
