Benin monarch seeks French support in revamping Nigeria’s economy

Oba of Benin suspends Enogie over alleged misconduct, dereliction of duty

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has asked the French government to support Nigeria’s efforts at revamping its dwindling economy through agro-allied ventures to engage the teeming youths and halt their penchant for irregular migration.

The Benin monarch made the appeal when he received Jerome Pasquier, French Ambassador to Nigeria, who led other top officials of the French embassy to the palace in Benin City.

The traditional ruler said the partnership between the palace and France would help proffer solutions to social problems confronting the society.

He equally advised the Ambassador to implement the outcome of the proposed dialogue on African cultural heritage to achieve the set goals.

Earlier, Jerome Pasquier said the French government would partner with the Benin monarch for early return of Benin artworks, which were looted from the kingdom many years ago.

He commended the Oba of Benin for steps taken to curb the menace of human trafficking, assuring that they are committed to supporting the palace’s fight against human trafficking.

“The French government is determined to eliminate all forms of discriminations as well as assist Africans in a dialogue to retrace their cultural heritage and culture,” Pasquier said.
