Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State, on Tuesday signed into law the creation of 13 new emirates and one chiefdom, reiterating his administration’s resolve to ensure full and transparent implementation of the reform without political interference.

Speaking during the signing ceremony held at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, the governor warned against attempts to undermine or politicise the process, stressing that the reforms are aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and fostering inclusive development.

The newly established emirates include Burra, Dambam, Darazo, Duguri, Gamawa, Giade, Toro, Warji, Ari, Jama’a, Lame, Bununu, and Lere, with Zaar designated as a chiefdom.

Governor Mohammed described the initiative as a policy-driven measure designed to improve local administration, promote inclusivity, boost internally generated revenue, and enhance data for development planning.

He commended the Bauchi State House of Assembly for its legislative diligence and the Hamza Koshe Akuyam-led committee for conducting a transparent and consultative review that guided the reform process.

“Our traditional institutions, which have served as the bedrock of peace, order, and identity, must evolve to meet the realities of our growing population and changing society. The Bauchi of 1976 is not the Bauchi of 2025,” the governor said. “Our population has multiplied, our towns have expanded, and the demands of governance have become more complex.”

He cautioned individuals or groups against inciting division or spreading misinformation, warning that law enforcement agencies have been empowered to act decisively to maintain peace and order.

Governor Mohammed further stated that any government official or traditional leader found working against the spirit of the reform would face disciplinary action.

He called on citizens to support the new emirates, chiefdom, and districts, urging collective efforts toward peace, unity, and sustainable development across the state.
