Three police officers have been killed while two others sustained injuries following an attack by suspected bandits in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the attack occurred on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at about 12:44 p.m., when a team of police officers on routine anti-crime patrol along the Guga–Bakori axis was ambushed by armed hoodlums who opened fire on them.

“The officers responded bravely and repelled the attack. Unfortunately, three officers paid the supreme price during the encounter, while two others sustained injuries,” DSP Sadiq said.

He added that the injured officers were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

DSP Sadiq further disclosed that investigations have commenced to track down and arrest the perpetrators of what he described as a “dastardly act,” assuring that further developments would be communicated in due course.
