Bandits attack community in Zamfara, kill one, abduct two

Bandits kill 14-year-old son of abducted Kaduna judge over delay to pay N300m ransom for release

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the death of Ashiru Nagoma, a resident of Buluku, following an attack by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to ASP Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson for the command, Nagoma was targeted by the assailants who fatally shot him after he resisted their attack. Nagoma’s wife and neighbor were also abducted during the incident.

“Our officers are actively searching for the perpetrators and ensuring the safe return of the abducted victims,” Abubakar said. “A full investigation is underway.”

This attack comes amidst prior claims of bandits targeting worshippers in mosques across Zamfara. However, Abubakar emphasized that the latest incident was not a mosque attack.

“There were reports circulating on social media about an attack on a mosque in Gusau,” he clarified. “Those reports are inaccurate. This was a targeted attack on an individual.”

The incident follows a similar one in February, where bandits abducted worshippers from a mosque in Tsafe, Zamfara. These repeated attacks raise concerns about the safety of residents, particularly those practicing their faith in places of worship.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the Buluku abduction to contact the nearest police station.
