Axxela Limited, Sub-Saharan Africa’s leading gas and power company, in partnership with NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML), has successfully commissioned a 5km natural gas pipeline network in Victoria Island, Lagos.
This network connects Eko Atlantic City to piped natural gas (PNG), marking a significant milestone in their ongoing 72.5km pipeline project extending from Victoria Island to the Lekki area.
The newly commissioned pipeline, running from Outer Marina to Kuramo Beach, is the first phase of the larger project. It will ultimately link customers from Five Cowrie River by Army Officers’ Mess in Bonny Camp to the proposed Lekki International Airport.
Kehinde Alabi, Axxela’s chief operating officer, emphasised, “The completion of this phase highlights our commitment to expanding natural gas infrastructure in the Greater Lagos Area. By connecting Eko Atlantic City to gas, we are enhancing access to reliable energy solutions, supporting economic growth, and developing sustainable clusters that contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement.”
Justin Ezeala, managing director of NGML, noted, “This expansion reflects our long-standing partnership and dedication to advancing natural gas infrastructure in Nigeria and Africa. Extending the pipeline network to Victoria Island and Lekki represents a significant step forward in our mission.”
On his part, David Frame, managing director of Eko Atlantic City, praised the project’s impact, stating, “Being the first to benefit from this development ensures a stable, affordable, and reliable energy supply for our needs. It also sets a high standard for modern urban living and aligns with our vision of creating an energy-efficient, sustainable city.”
The partnership between Axxela, NGML, and Eko Atlantic City is set to meet the city’s growing energy demands efficiently.
Eko Atlantic City is also developing a 60MW gas-powered plant, anticipated to launch soon. As the city expands, Axxela’s extensive experience in natural gas distribution will support its residential and commercial energy needs.
