Assembly increases 2025 Kwara appropriation bill by N44.3bn to N584.69bn

The Kwara State House of Assembly has increased the 2025 State Appropriation Bill by N44.3 billion as the State fiscal estimates now stand at N584.69 billion instead of the initial estimates of N540.37 billion earlier presented before the State House of Assembly by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in December, 2024.

The approved budget as explained by Yakubu Danlad-Salihu, the Speaker of the House prioritises critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, water, housing, youth development, works, and transport.

The budget was however passed after the House considered the reports of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation, presented by Fatimah Arinola Lawal, Chairperson and member, representing Ilorin East Constituency.

Lawal explained that the approved budget includes a Recurrent Expenditure of N205.30 billion, up from N204.71 billion, reflecting an increase of N585.67 million.

The Capital Expenditure now stands at N379.40 billion, compared to the Executive’s proposal of N335.66 billion, marking a N43.74 billion increase.

She emphasised that the budget underwent thorough scrutiny, with relevant Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well other stakeholders invited for clarifications before final approval.

The Appropriation Bill was read by Kareem Olayiwola Ahmed the Clerk of the House, for the third time and the Speaker, directed the Clerk to prepare a clean copy of the budget for the Governor’s assent.
