Amotekun Corps allegedly torture teenager to death over N500

Men of the Western Nigeria Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun in Ondo State have allegedly tortured a 14-year-old boy, identified as Ayomide Adeghalu to death.

BusinessDay gathered that Ayomide, who was living with his stepmother, was sent to hawk cooked rice but was unable to account for a missing N500 from the sales.

The stepmother who was said to be infuriated with the inability of the young boy to explain how the money got missing, flogged the deceased and insisted on accounting for the missing money.

The late teenager was said to have been subjected to some punishment by the stepmother. A source disclosed that the boy was eventually handed to some officials of Amotekun in Ondo town, in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, who now tortured the boy to force the truth from him.

The deceased was said to have become weak and unconscious and later rushed to a specialist hospital in Ondo town where he was confirmed dead by doctors.

The source said that the incident which happened in Ogbonkowo area of Odojomu in Ondo town had been reported at the Fagun police station, while the remains were taken to the morgue.

While confirming the death of the boy, a woman who identified herself as the mother, Mary, lamented the death of his son.

She explained that she was informed about the condition of the boy and had to rush to the area as she had divorced the father of the deceased.

“I was surprised about the death of Ayomide because he was hale and hearty the last time I saw him and he never complained of any ailment, only to learn that he was being tortured to death by some security officials over missing N500”

As at the time of filing this report, all attempts to speak with Amotekun commander, Adetunji Adeleye, on the death of the young boy were not successful as several calls to his mobile phone were not returned.
