Abraham Akpan, the newly appointed Country Manager for Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, for Technology for Social Change and Development Initiative (Tech4Dev), says he’s ready to lead the organisation’s resolve to strengthen and create more meaningful economic opportunities for young Africans.

“I look forward to working with partners and stakeholders to strengthen the tech pipeline, scale high-impact programs, and create meaningful economic opportunities for young people across Africa,” Akpan said in response to his appointment by Tech4Dev as country manager.

The global non-profit organisation is geared towards driving economic mobility for young, underserved populations by equipping young Africans with high-quality technology knowledge and skills to access decent jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities.

According to the organisation, Akpan’s appointment reinforces the organisation’s commitment to leadership, scale, and long-term impact across Africa. “I am honoured to join Tech4Dev at this pivotal moment, as the organisation leads efforts to advance digital inclusion, workforce readiness, and the responsible integration of AI into Africa’s talent ecosystem.”

Prior to this appointment, Akpan served as chief operating officer (COO) at Taltrix, where he led workforce solutions connecting African talent to global opportunities. In his new role, he will oversee strategic partnerships, programs development, and regional operations, strengthening Tech4Dev’s capacity to expand pathways to economic prosperity and mobility for young people across Africa.

According to Akpan, Tech4Dev remains committed to expanding equitable access to high-quality technology knowledge and skills as pathways to economic mobility and prosperity, connecting young, underserved populations to jobs, mentorship, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Tech4Dev reiterated that the appointment is a key milestone in its growth strategy as the organisation builds on its presence in 30 African countries and continues to scale its programs, partnerships, and policy engagement into additional countries in the region.

It added that Akpan’s leadership will support efforts to deliver on Tech4Dev’s 2030 vision of expanding access to economic opportunities at scale through inclusive skills development, leveraging artificial intelligence.

Accordingly, Akpan brings over a decade of experience across Africa’s technology, innovation, and development ecosystem. A 2021 Mandela Washington Fellow, he has led and delivered high-impact programs focused on organisational growth, human capital development, and inclusive economic opportunity across multiple African countries.
