Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday imposed a dusk to dawn on Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state following the disturbing violence in the ancient town.
The curfew which too immediate effect from 6pm, according to Governor Akeredolu, in a statement by his commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, in Akure, was to forestall further escalation of the deadly clash.
According to him, security agencies have been deployed to the community following sporadic gunshots across the community and mandated to enforce the curfew.
Recall that two person were on Monday feared killed in Ikare Akoko, as two factions of youths reportedly engaged in a clash over the Okoja chieftaincy title in the troubled community.
BusinessDay gathered that the two traditional chiefs; Idowu Ogunye and Sunday Bada have been fighting each over the Olokoja chieftaincy, but the Olukare of Ikare, Akadiri Momoh reportedly removed Ogunye and replaced him with Bada.
Meanwhile, Ogunye reportedly insisted he was still the Olokoja of Okoja Quarters which was said to have prompted the disturbing violent crisis that ensued afterward.
It was, however, learnt that Bada summoned a meeting on Monday, but some youths allegedly disrupted the meeting leading to gunfight, during which two persons were shot dead, while some were injured.
Governor Akeredolu in the statement warned that anyone who violates or contravenes the curfew shall face the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities relating to the Olokoja chieftaincy title.
The statement added that no one is permitted to parade himself as Olokoja, or engage in promotional activities relating to the title in question.
