The fighters of the Islamic State of West African Province, ISWAP, have killed at least four soldiers and one civilian in a fresh attack in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno state on Wednesday.
BusinessDay gathered that the incident occurred around 12noon on Wednesday in the Mussa community on the fringe of Sambisa Forest.
According to the Chairman of the Local government, Mada Saidu, confirmed the incident that the ISWAP terrorists stormed the village, shooting sporadically, and residents fled their homes into nearby bushes to seek safety.
“There was an attack at Mussa ward yesterday afternoon. They killed five people, including four soldiers and one woman.
A civilian JTF source said the affected soldiers are from the 115 Task Force Battalion in the Aa/Uba localLocal Government Areaour of our troops belonging to the 115 Task Force battalion were killed while ensuring that the terrorists did not gain entrance into the town. The insurgents were not many.
“But it was a coordinated attack aimed at infiltrating the town. The troops stood their ground, but unfortunately, the four were killed,” the sources said.
Yohanna Musa, a resident of the community, said they heard gunfire for about 30 minutes, leaving villagers in disarray
“We were hearing serious gunshots and many people began to flee their homes at exactly 12noon yesterday. If not for the military’s defence, they had intended to enter our community that afternoon to cause massive destruction.”Musa said.
