Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has inaugurated a 100- Member Resolution Committee to address the persistent disputes between the communities of Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun boundary crisis.

Governor Adeleke had recently imposed a 12-hour curfew on the warring communities following a recent communal clash between the Ifon and Ilobu.

Speaking during the inauguration on Monday, Governor Adeleke, who was represented by Kola Adewusi, the deputy governor, expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in resolving the conflict, stressing the importance of peace in fostering social harmony, security, and economic stability.

He frowned at any attempt to politicise the crisis, warning those masquerading under communal struggle for political agenda to stay away from the issue.

The governor then urged the Committee members to use their expertise and experience in this critical assignment.

The Committee is made up of 25 members from the affected communities while the state Government will also be represented by 25 members.

Four other respected traditional rulers and government-appointed individuals will serve as committee members.

The Committee’s terms of reference include examining the remote and immediate causes of the dispute, determining and marking the exact boundaries among the three communities, signing a truce, and taking appropriate decisions to enable the government to achieve permanent peace in the areas.

The Committee will also make recommendations to the government on permanent delineation of the boundaries and visit the disputed areas. To ensure transparency, sittings of the committee will be made open, and the committee is expected to take expeditious actions and complete its assignment within two weeks from the date of its inauguration.
