Adewole Adebayo, Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the February 25 General Elections, has called on Federal Government and Governments at all levels to give more attention to welfare of the orphans and underprivileged children in the society.
According to him, these orphans and underprivileged children are the future leaders of our country, explaining that a common saying – children are leaders of tomorrow – should not be said only but must be put into an action and practice.
Adebayo, who made the call on Sunday at the 2nd Anniversary of Dorian home, a 700-capacity Orphanage in Akure, Ondo State capital, where he donated a whopping sum of money for the upkeep of the orphans and indigent children, said politicians and people at the helms of affairs should prioritise welfare of orphans and the underprivileged, asking any politician who wants to govern to visit Ophanages to learn.

He said; “Nigeria suppose to be a safe, nice, conducive, beautiful and security for all citizens of this country. And you don’t have to be in the highest position before you can give back to the society.
“I have sought the mandate of the Nigerians to go to the highest office in this country, I think more people should be doing this kind humanitarian gesture, not only individuals, but 774 local government areas that we have and the 36 states of the federation. To me, every institutions and person will see that this humanitarian gesture is what we need to do and if we have 10,000 of this, there would be no child poverty in this country and I think it is doable and I will encourage everyone to key into this gesture.
“What Tolulola Bayode, the founder of the Dorian Home is doing, is telling us in poetry that there is no government in Nigeria, that we are all orphans, abandoned on the streets. And that if it is possible for an individuals who doesn’t control one local government can do this thing and complete it within a term in government, I think it is possible for all to do.
“So, those in the position of leadership in this country should stop telling us that it is difficult to rescue the poor, and complete any projects. So, all I can tell Nigerians is that we should try for the first time to form a government. Not all these bad things we carry around. So, poverty in Nigeria is a government project, I can tell you that these orphans were not created to be orphans, but it was the Nigeria that orphaned them.
“Dorian Home is clearing the mess now that our political leadership has created. What I’m saying is that it is not good for the government to be sending more orphans to the society by stealing our money, mismanagement of our economy and creating kiosks all over the place.
“Government have to work towards these orphans and underprivileged so that we can see that it is a service to humanity. I encourage everybody to come in and let us give support to this kind humanitarian gesture. Imagine if every local government have one, I know that Nigeria will change for better.
Also speaking, Jimoh Ibrahim, a Senator Representing Ondo South Senatorial District, who also donated to support the feeding of the less privileged children and orphans, said he was ashamed of making what he termed little donation to such groups of people.
