The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised the alarm over an alleged plan to stage a protest in Abuja on Thursday, claiming it is part of a broader plot to destabilise the party.

In a post on X, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, alleged that the planned protest is being orchestrated by agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the development follows the party’s earlier claim of attempts to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking “illegal actions” against the ADC after the defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party.

“After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same,” Abdullahi stated. He alleged that a protest scheduled for Thursday, April 2, in Abuja is being sponsored by “a particularly notorious minister.”

Abdullahi claimed the protest would feature a paid crowd posing as aggrieved party members demanding the removal of David Mark, in a bid to create public pressure on INEC to recognise a former party member as national chairman.

“Their expectation is that a protest will give oxygen to a case already suffocating in the courts under the weight of its own illegality,” he said.

The ADC further alleged that the APC-led government is intensifying efforts to hijack its leadership, describing the move as a sign of “growing desperation” amid the party’s rising political momentum.

While reaffirming its commitment to lawful conduct, the party vowed to resist any attempt to undermine its leadership structure through legal means. It also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to caution those allegedly behind the plot.

Efforts to get a response from the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
