The national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Senate President David Mark, has expelled Nafiu Bala Gombe, and members of his faction over alleged anti-party activities.

Gombe and his loyalists were expelled during the party’s convention held on Tuesday in Abuja, with party leaders accusing them of actions deemed detrimental to the unity and stability of the ADC.

Party officials said one of the key reasons for the expulsion was Gombe’s decision to institute a court case challenging the legitimacy of the David Mark-led leadership.

According to the convention resolutions, taking the party to court without exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms amounted to anti-party activity and a direct affront to the party’s authority.

The convention maintained that Gombe’s legal action was aimed at undermining the outcome of prior internal processes that produced the current leadership structure.

The convention emphasised that the expulsion was necessary to preserve party discipline and send a clear message that acts capable of bringing the party into disrepute would not be tolerated.

However, Gombe’s camp is expected to challenge the decision.
