Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has flagged off the 2023 mass vaccination against transboundary animal diseases. The event took place at the international cattle market in Gerei Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Edgar Amos Sunday, the governor described vaccination of animals against transboundary diseases as the sure way of ensuring public health and the reduction of the prevalence.
He maintained that livestock subsector contributes meaningfully to the gross domestic product hence, his administration’s drive to accord the sector priority to achieve the multiple benefits in the industry.
He said that vaccination was necessary to stem the tide of the diseases affecting animals thereby enhancing public health and the prevalence of diseases for the better.
The governor called on the major stakeholders in the livestock industry to ensure the success of the vaccination exercise. He also made a case for the sustained peace throughout the harvest period in the state.
Commissioner of Livestock and Aquaculture Development, Tijjani Maksha said the vaccination campaign was against the contagious bovine pleuropneumonia and the peste des petits ruminants.
He also said that the vaccine was necessary as they are classified as the diseases of socio-economic significance by the world organisation of animal health that affect livestock dependant people’s culture, economy, trade and nutrition.

Chairman, Girei Local Government Area Juda Amisa and the district head of Girei, Ahmed ibrahim Mustafa commended Governor Fintiri for the support to Girei and livestock subsector, describing the move as a way of ensuring sustained public health, as well as economic growth and development.
